django unchained

Gun violence, revenge fantasies, non-linear storylines, dark humour, witty dialogue, complex and memorable characters, disturbing imagery and the fusion of all these facets to make a thoroughly entertaining film is something that Quentin Tarantino has mastered.

The film follows a former slave named Django(Jamie Foxx), who is freed by Dr. King Schultz(Christoph Waltz) in exchange for information about three brothers who have a price on their heads. After noting that Django is gifted when it comes to pulling the trigger, Schultz takes him under his wing and both eventually set out rescue Django’s wife Broomhilda(Kerry Washington) from the ownership of the francophile, sadistic, and extremely racist plantation owner Calvin Candie(Leonardo di Caprio).

Django Unchained is a film in the mould of previous Tarantino gems such as Reservoir DogsPulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds. Jamie Foxx was thoroughly convincing as the conflicted titular character, while Christoph Waltz’s wonderful portrayal of the soft-spoken,eccentric and bold Dr.Schultz earned him an Academy Award. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

collateral

Collateral is a crime thriller film . It follows taxi driver Max Durocher(Jamie Foxx), who is held hostage by ruthless contract killer Vincent(Tom Cruise).

Tom Cruise is seen in a role that is poles apart from the “goody two-shoes” roles that cemented his position as a movie star. His portrayal of the cold, calculating and intimidating Vincent ranks among his finest performances, and certainly scores points on the “serious ” actor board. Jamie Foxx was splendid as Max, a cab driver who dreams of driving a limo someday, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

If you’re a fan of neo-noir crime thrillers, Collateral isn’t a movie to be missed.
