Gangs of New York is a fictionalized historical drama film set in the mid-19th century in Manhattan, with the American Civil War as the backdrop.
The film follows the gang wars between the Nativists, led by Bill “The Butcher” Cutting(Daniel Day-Lewis) and the Irish-American immigrants, led by the protagonist Amsterdam Vallon(Leonardo di Caprio).Both Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo di Caprio deliver electrifying performances as their characters set out on a quest for superiority,blood and vengeance.
Martin Scorsese won the Golden Globe for Best Director,and the film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Director,Best Picture and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis.
