I’ll be listing one film each from 10 major genres-action, comedy,crime, drama,horror,romance,science-fiction,thriller, war,western.


Die Hard

One of the most badass heroes of all time, New York Police officer John McLane, is up against 12 terrorists who have taken a Los Angeles skyscraper hostage. Epic action sequences, memorable dialogues and sheer thrill makes this one of the greatest action movies ever.


The Big Lebowski

A slightly offbeat movie from Oscar-winning auteurs, the Coen Brothers, this hilarious, quirky and entertaining film inspired a whole new religion(Dudeism) and an annual convention.

The Dude abides.



One of the best films ever made by Martin Scorsese, this gripping gangster film delves into the inner workings of the mafia, and draws out memorable performances from the cast.


Dead Poets Society

Beautifully shot and brilliantly written, this film brings out the beauty and charm of Paris, and explores the themes of post-modernism and romance through the eyes of Gil Pender, a burnt-out screenwriter on a visit to Paris with his grumpy fiancee.



Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus takes us on a beautifully haunting journey through outer space. Stunning visuals, Hans Zimmer’s awe-inspiring background score and the core theme of love make Interstellar one of the greatest movies in the sci-fi genre.

A dark multi-layered psychological thriller which explores the themes of paranoia and delusion. This film grows on your mind. Christian Bale took method acting to a whole new level by shedding 60 pounds for his role as an insomniac.


Saving Private Ryan

Legendary director Steven Spielberg won the Oscar for Best Director for his realistic, graphic and masterful World War II drama which takes you directly into the heat of battle. The opening sequence depicting the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach, Normandy, is a masterclass in direction and cinematography.


The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Clint Eastwood’s iconic portrayal of ‘The Man With No Name’ features in this epic western, the last in Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy. Revenge and buried treasure lead the three main characters into a high-octane adventure featuring epic gunfights ,beautiful terrain and memorable dialogues.

Toy Story is an animated adventure film which follows a group of living toys who pretend to be lifeless whenever humans are present.It was the first ever film to be entirely computer-animation based, and also the first production from Pixar.

Cowboy doll Woody(Tom Hanks), the leader of the group of toys owned by a boy named Andy, feels resentful after new arrival Buzz Lightyear(Tim Allen), a space ranger displaces Woody as Andy’s favourite toy. After he accidentally knocks Buzz out of the window, the other toys shun Woody,who unwittingly follows Buzz and ends up being abandoned by Andy. It now up to Woody and Buzz to team up and return home before Andy moves out.

The film’s witty dialogue and brilliantly executed computer graphics made it one of the best animated movies of all time.Toy Story won a Special Achievement Academy Award, and is regarded as one of the landmarks in technical innovation.

Catch Me If You Can is a crime drama film based on the incredible true story of Frank Abagnale(Leonardo di Caprio), a con artist who earned millions of dollars posing as a Pan-Am pilot,a doctor,and a prosecutor,all before his nineteenth birthday.Tom Hanks portrays  Carl Hanratty, an FBI agent hot on his trail.

The story moves at a brisk pace, with enthralling,dramatic scenes interspersed with comedic elements. It is certainly one of the most entertaining films directed by Steven Spielberg, capped by solid performances from two of the greatest actors of their generation.

Saving Private Ryan(1998)

Widely regarded as the greatest war movie of all time,Saving Private Ryan follows a squad led by Captain John Miller(Tom Hanks) as they search for a paratrooper James Francis Ryan(Matt Damon), whose three brothers have all been killed in action.

Through its Oscar-winning cinematography,the film takes you right into the heat of battle.The film is notable for the brilliantly picturized opening 27 minutes, which depict the brutal Omaha Beach assault on 6 June,1944.The cast members delivered standout performances, bringing out the sheer horror and trauma faced by the soldiers who fought to save the world.

The film was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won five, including Best Director for Steven Spielberg.

Forrest Gump is a romantic-comedy-drama film based on Winston Groom’s novel of the same name. It follows the adventures of a simple-minded,good-hearted and athletically gifted man named Forrest Gump.

Forrest’s story is one of epic proportions, as he witnesses some of the biggest events of the 20th century, while he meets his love interest,Jenny, at different points in his life.

The film has attained iconic status,and won six Academy Awards including Best Director for Robert Zemeckis,Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, and Tom Hanks won the award for Best Actor.
